I just received this in an email from my middle school French teacher:
XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXXO je t’aime!!!!
She is so crazy/brilliant/awesome.
These are my two projects for the semester:
1) Pay Equity Day Bake Sale. April 20, 2010 is this year’s pay equity day, representing how far into 2010 women will need to work to earn the same amount as men. The idea is that you pay according to your economic privilege, so white men pay more than black men, who pay (slightly) more than white women, who pay more than black women, who pay more...
Bad news: Just ate almost a pint of ice cream, WHILE STILL IN MY COAT I DIDN’T EVEN BOTHER TO TAKE IT OFF BEFORE SHOVING ICE CREAM DOWN MY THROAT.
Good news: nope.
I love it when bands do special annual shows.
douglasmartini:
Like Yo La Tengo’s yearly Hanukkah residency or Harvey Danger’s Annual Last Show Ever. More bands should have a really big blowout show in the same place every year.
I always say that Spank Rock’s annual xmas show at the Talking Head (Sonar this year?) in Bmore is the bread to the butter that is Yo La Tengo’s annual Hanukkah show at Maxwell’s! I couldn’t...

I can’t quite figure out if that book was a critique of religion, or something else. I don’t know much about science fiction.
I’m scared of the dark/don’t like sleeping in an empty apartment.

There is a post floating around tumblr right now, complaining that liberal arts degrees with majors such as philosophy and sociology are not “real” and are excuses for unintelligent people to acquire undergraduate degrees.
Well, today in the business section of the NYT,...
I could not agree more with this quote by Barbara K. Bodine, former U.S. ambassador to Yemen,
“‘If they see David Patraeus more than Kathleen Sebelius, then we have a problem,’ Ms. Bodine said, referring to the military commander and the secretary of health and human services, respectively.”
I love his style, but he's not my messiah.
Last night, I watched Vicki Cristina Barcelona with Daniel. I was interested by the romantic, perhaps idealistic vision of love that Scarlett Johansson’s character espoused. It also hit pretty close to home, what with her flitting off to a foreign country, meeting someone exciting, sexy and slightly dangerous, and having the experience of a lifetime bouncing from bar to museum to bar with her...
Tal once said that I am not post-modern enough for Twitter and I’m starting to think he’s right.
I mean, call me old-fashioned but I like my sense of community to relate to a group of people whom I have met in person, ideally more than once. What even is this micro-blogging bullshit anyway? I don’t know that I can find meaning in it.
I’m feeling lost in a void of...
Me: This is my first snow of the season!
Tal: It didn't snow in Mali?

WITH PAUL-WILLIAM FOR THE FIRST TIME! WE ARE GONNA HAVE SO MUCH FUN. He’s going to be up already that day for the Julian Casablancas show, I am going to be… doing something. I don’t have plans, but I have been convinced to go and I guess we’ll see how long we stay. It’s a long weekend for me because of MLK day the following Monday, which is also awesome. Oh, and...
Sofia: mmmm

I am genuinely trying to think of this new year, new decade, as something really meaningful and significant but it’s impossible.
I think that what killed it was when yesterday I asked myself what I was doing ten years ago, and then my response to myself was: Well, I was twelve so I have no idea, probably learning about clouds in 6th grade science class or something.
